Comparatives - How to compare things

Portuguese: Easier or more difficult?

You make a comparative of an adjective (or adverb) simply by placing "mais" (more) or "menos" (less) in front of the word and "do que" or "que" after it.

Example:

Adjective

Comparative

Linda

(beautiful)

mais linda do que ...

(More beautiful than ...)

Frio

(cold)

mais frio do que ...

(colder than ...)

Longe

(far)

mais longe do que ...

(further than)

Fluente

(fluent)

Mais fluente do que ...

(more fluent than ...)

Careful with these important exceptions:

Adjective/adverb

Comparative

bom / bem

(good / well)

melhor do que ...

(better than ...)

mau

(bad)

pior do que ...

(worse than ...)

grande

(big)

maior do que ...

(bigger than ...)
